In this piece, I displayed a cyanotype print that features an emotional subject, with prints that resemble the story within the character. The cyanotype with print effect produces a unique aesthetic, that overall affects how the viewer takes in the emotions and meaning of the photograph. While having assistance, I was able to capture a perfect contrasted image in order for the cyanotype to visualize good detail on both the graduation gown/cap, and the subject's shadows within the face. The graduation gown came out very clear, having detail while displaying a visually pleasing contrasting white. By having my subject take on the exact middle within the rule of thirds boundaries, I was able to create a portrait while containing white space for the prints of dollar signs. The story of this image all revolves around the clothing, the dollar signs, and especially the anger symbol. I desired in telling a story about what graduation can really mean, how graduating seniors in this generation will have their mind on money. Financial instability in college is a significant and dangerous problem within our students, so I wanted to express this issue through this piece. After printmaking, I found this piece to be very successful, as I truly feel that my story comes through correctly, and the dollar signs were created through a new technique I was taught that really interests me further with cyanotypes and printmaking overall.

From the list of the themes that represent me as a person and an artist, I ultimately made a decision to talk about my culture. Developing this theme was difficult to say the least, although I was passionate about representing my love for my culture but the inability to speak in my own language through a photograph. To start the theme, I set up a three way lighting, a duo-tone lighting of red and blue with a hint of yellow to represent the flag of the Philippines. LED lighting and any artificial lighting has been my aesthetic that I have been developing throughout the semester, so I felt accomplished understanding that I was able to represent my culture through the use of lighting. To symbolize my inability to speak the Tagalog language, I had my subject cover their mouth as I composited the flag throughout his hand. I felt that this attempt on incorporating Photoshop worked well. If I had to change an element in this piece, it would be to utilize props alongside the lighting to symbolize the Filipino culture, (I.E. Traditional Filipino Clothing).
